Deviation Actions
We see headlines all the time, whether in newspapers, in magazine articles, in blogs and so on. They are designed to attract our attention to the stories that they are promoting. How many times have you been drawn to read something because of a catchy headline?
For this contest, simplyprose challenges you with this contest theme:
Write a short story based on a headline, whether from a newspaper, magazine article, blog, any kind of written media. Do NOT read the story that is accompanied with the headline. Your inspiration should be derived solely from the headline. Allow your imagination to transform the headline into possible storylines and meanings!
Rules and Guidelines
Any deviantART member can enter this contest, whether or not they watch simplyprose and/or have contributed to the monthly prompts.
Only ONE entry per person.
Only prose in short story form will be accepted. No scripts, please.
Entries should be new and specifically written for this contest, uploaded from January 2011 onwards.
All entries should mention this contest in their artist's comments with a link back to this article. You won't be disqualified if you don't, but it is highly recommended and appreciated.
All entries should be submitted to the correct gallery and follow deviantART's policies and rules. Entries with mature content should be appropriately tagged before submission.
No word limit!
The deadline for entries is 1st February 2011. I will allow a little leeway for that date, since time zones are different for everyone, but no entries will be accepted after the 2nd. You have one whole month to do this!
Upload your entries onto deviantART as a deviation and send a note to simplyprose titled "Contest Entry" with a link to that deviation. This is so that I can differentiate between contest entries and normal submissions to the project.
Judges and Prizes
Me (julietcaesar) and Leonca will be the judges for this contest. We will be judging them mainly on creativity, technique and presentation. Spelling, punctuation and grammar must be consistent.
At the moment, our prize list is somewhat limited as we are not exactly the richest deviants on this website. If you are willing to donate any prizes such as subscriptions, points, features, llamas, art/lit requests, prints etc please note julietcaesar with the title "Contest Donation". All prize donators are greatly appreciated and will be featured on my profile page and on simplyprose's profile page!

If Kronos Drank Milk by ohmistermagazine (https://www.deviantart.com/ohmistermagazine)

This story does an excellent job of utilizing the three prompt words to their fullest potential. Each contributes to the storys symbolism as it follows the growing independence of the protagonist.
"I tried to tell Mama about Kronos," I said. "She told me to shut up."
"That's stupid. Does your mama just

Simplyprose: February 2011 Submissions
February of 2011 proved to be the month of the Miscellaneous Prompt. The tricky task of dividing a story between three first person narrators was an excellent practice for writers to hone their skills. Feel free to give them a read and let you know what you think with a comment or a fave!

Anotherfirename presents a scenario where some people have been given powers, each of which has affected their lives in a different way. Strong use of dialogue and body language illustrate what happens when three strangers meet.
